I wanted to know about the rental car damage protection, I am from New York and my credit card provides secondary coverage but does not include liability coverage. Is the rental car protector necessary then?

No, it's optional. Subject to your Residency ( state) you may be offered online during the booking process extra online protection.

When I select the state for the policy I get this product is not available. So I would be paying for something that would not cover me?

You can add various extra insurance on arrival at the desk. Very basic insurance is included in the rental rate. On arrival you will have the option to add various levels of additional insurance. You can view these options by clicking on the icon/link entitled IMPORTANT INFORMATION, which you will find to the right hand side of each car photo. Each supplier will have slightly different options, so you may wish to view a few different ones.
